Kiwiana Paper Cut-Outs 1996 - 1998

I started my art career creating paper collage, cut-out works. My method was drawing the image, painting with acrylic paints on the reverse side then cutting out once dry and gluing selected in shaded pieces on to a black piece of paper. I created stylized landscapes, wildlife designs, geometrical abstract and koru designs. I used fluro and vibrant acrylic paint & glue sticks to glue the work together. Later on these designs became best selling print designs I sold on Gift Cards and as Framed Prints.
Abstract Canvas Cut-Outs 1999 - 2000
Looking for a change from paper, I moved on to canvas. I started with the same technique then I started layering the canvas and building up more texture. I liked to use gold and other metallic colour paints in these works. I started added nylon thread and pieces of fabric for added texture when plain canvas turned a little boring. The canvas cut-out were glued onto a canvas support for presentation and selling.
Abstract Fashion Collages 2001 - 2011

After working sometimes with fabric on the canvas collages, I started taking a keen interest in fabric. My first fabric collage was inspired by Art Deco, it was silver, black & white diamond checkers. Not to long after creating my first fabric work I took an interest in alternative sub cultures and their fashion styles such as Gothic, Lolita, Punk and the Biker Scene. I decided I would sacrifice my old leather biker jacket to make an abstract collage, it turned out to be the start and inspiration of works to come. I then created a few Gothic styled collages using a layered effect with lace & velvet and sometimes mixing with black acrylic paint. Moving onto Gothic Lolita I added lace and frills. Having explored the Gothic theme I decided to create some Punk Rock Abstract works, these works were great to work on, I added plaid, studs, digital print transfers, safety pins, zips and leather.
Digital Photography 2001 - 2014

After starting computer art I bought a digital camera. Once I started taking photos, mainly landscapes I realized I had a natural ability to capture a great composition. I love trees, pathways, park benches and architecture. I am lucky to have been born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand. The scenery is gorgeous! A majority of my photography is b&w as I like to just focus on the composition of the shot. Black & white also works into the Gothic feel and solitude I like to capture.
Digital Collage Art 2001 - 2012

During the time creating the fabric collages I was also designing graphics on the computer. My digital art is created from the same inspiration as the fabric collages - youth subculture fashion & style. Cartoon skulls, love hearts & stars + crosses, bats & typography are the main subject matter. My digital art is available to purchase as fine art print collections through this website + via POD sites for a wide range of fashion accessories & clothing.
Abstract Expressionism Paintings 2008 - 2012

Wanting a break from messing around with gluing fabric, I decided to paint on canvas supports - just paint no cut-outs of canvas or fabric glued on. Always being more of a abstract artist, I decided to work on this subject. I wanted my work to be more meaningful though not just decorative so I decided to add some words and not just any words, words that meant something to me and maybe others. My style and inner voice is – Text Expressionism, a form of Abstract Expressionism. I use my own personal hand writing, creating a contemporary, modern feel. My contrasts include textured / smooth, controlled / loose, light / dark. I use a limited color palette 2 – 3 in each piece. I use a range of painting tools including a palette knife, different size paint brushes, rollers & occasionally I get stuck in with my hands, there’s nothing like feeling like a child again!
